Our youngest students.
Although it’s possible to enrol with us at any age, our youngest students start with us at 5 years old, once a week for 60 minutes, for a total of 33 lessons in a school year.
We teach them colours, animals, numbers and the proper sound of English through teacher/student interaction as well as songs and games. The following year they expand their vocabulary and start to learn the basics of the alphabet, its symbols and its sounds, as well as writing letters.
The year after that, their lessons are one and a half hours long.
They keep expanding their vocabulary, speaking skills and their understanding of the English language by listening to teachers with proper English accents. Before they move to twice-weekly lessons they spend one year consolidating their knowledge and skills with a course which introduces them to the concept of learning grammar systematically.

Our primary school, secondary school and university students.
At the age of 10 or 11 they start twice-weekly 90 minute classes, with a yearly total of 132 lessons, or 66 double lessons.
They are now ready to spend 3 hours weekly tackling a systematic approach to improving and developing their English through more complex writing and grammar, as well as an advanced programme of speaking, listening, reading, spelling, and use of English. By the time teenagers and university students take their Cambridge English language examinations they will also have learnt exam practice and study skills, which will prove invaluable for their future studies in their own language as well as in English.
If they so wish, pupils at A2 level have the option of taking the KET exam, while at B1 level they can take the PET exam. Our secondary school students then have the opportunity to sit the FC, CAE and/or Proficiency examinations.
We quickly achieved what we set out to do:
- We have plenty of kids as young as ten who feel quite at ease speaking English abroad – to the surprise and delight of their parents
- Our students regularly reach municipal, city and state-level English language competitions in Serbia
- We have had students who have gone on to become English language teachers themselves, as well as practicing English language teachers come to us to hone their craft
- Many have continued their education or found jobs abroad after attending Active English School
